The Elyndo guide

How to turn a syllabus into a semester plan, and how to make each day count.

Getting started

Elyndo works on iPhone, iPad and Mac. One purchase covers all three, and your planner syncs through your private iCloud account.

  1. Add a course. Import its syllabus, or create the course yourself and add tasks as you go.
  2. Review the dates. Check what Elyndo found against the syllabus text, then add the items to your planner.
  3. Plan today. Choose what you’ll work on, check that it fits, and start.

The sidebar (or the tab bar on iPhone) takes you to Today, Tasks, Courses, Calendar, Imports, Backlog, Weekly, Reports and Archive. You can replay the welcome tour any time from Settings › About Elyndo.

Importing a syllabus

Elyndo reads PDF, Word (.docx, and .doc on Mac), RTF and plain-text files, as well as photos and camera scans of a printed syllabus.

  • Choose Import syllabus from a course or the Imports screen. On Mac, press ⇧ ⌘ I.
  • You can also drop a file onto Elyndo, or open it with Elyndo from the Files app.
  • The first time, Elyndo explains what it will share with its AI service and asks for your permission. Nothing is sent before you agree.

A file with selectable text uses 1 credit. A photo, or a scanned PDF with no selectable text, uses 3 credits, and Elyndo asks you to confirm before it starts. See How Elyndo uses AI for exactly what is shared.

Reviewing what Elyndo found

When a read finishes, Elyndo lists the assignments, quizzes, exams, readings and other items it found. Nothing reaches your planner until you add it.

  • Check the source. Every item shows the syllabus text it was read from, so you can confirm the date in a second.
  • Answer questions. When the syllabus is unclear, for example “the week after spring break”, Elyndo asks rather than guessing.
  • Edit freely. Change titles, kinds, dates, times and estimates, skip items you don’t need, or add ones that are missing.

Reviewing and editing never use credits. AI can make mistakes, so give the dates a quick look before you add them.

Courses and tasks

Each course keeps its color, meeting times, term dates and syllabus together, with an overview of its upcoming work. You can also track grades and try hypothetical scores on work that hasn’t been graded yet.

Tasks have two kinds of date:

  • The due date is the deadline.
  • The scheduled day is when you plan to work on it. Tasks without a scheduled day wait in the Backlog.

Add estimates, subtasks, notes and repeats to any task. Completed tasks move out of the way, and archived ones are kept in the Archive.

Views and properties

The Tasks screen shows your work as a table, board, calendar, list, gallery or timeline. Every view can filter, sort and group, and you can save the views you use often.

Add your own properties, such as text, a number, a select, a date, a checkbox or a link, to track whatever matters for a course.

Planning your day

Today shows your days side by side, with a capacity bar that compares the time you’ve planned against the time your day has.

Morning planning

Choose Plan today (⇧ ⌘ P on Mac) to walk through five short steps: reflect on yesterday, choose today’s work, decide what can wait, put it in order, and share your plan if you like.

Timeboxing

Drag a task onto the calendar beside your classes and events to give it a time. If you choose a calendar in Settings, timeboxes also appear there.

Evening shutdown

Choose Shut down today (⇧ ⌘ D) to review the day, note your wins and reflect. Unfinished work moves along only when you ask, and you can undo the move.

Planning your week

Weekly planning sets a few objectives, looks at the week’s deadlines and records an intention. Weekly review checks your objectives, shows what you finished and gives you space to reflect.

Reports show planned and actual time by course, how accurate your estimates are, your planning streak and the deadlines ahead. You can export a range as CSV.

Focus and time tracking

Start focus from any task to see just that task and a timer. Press Space to start or pause and C to complete the task.

You can also start a timer from a task without entering focus. Stop it from anywhere with ⌘ . on Mac. Completing a task stops its timer, and tracked time appears in Reports.

Calendars and Reminders

Elyndo can show events from the calendars on your device, including iCloud, Google and Outlook accounts you’ve added in your device’s settings, next to your plan. Elyndo asks for permission first, and you choose which calendars appear in Settings › Calendars & Reminders.

You can also sync tasks with Apple Reminders lists you choose. Completion, titles, notes, due dates and priority stay in step both ways.

Sync across devices

Your courses, tasks, plans and tracked time sync through your private iCloud account. Sign in to iCloud with the same Apple Account on each device. There is no separate sign-up; Elyndo uses your verified App Store identity for its credit account.

Sync timing depends on connectivity and iCloud availability. Your syllabus credit balance follows your App Store account and is separate from iCloud.

Syllabus credits

Credits are used only when Elyndo reads a new syllabus: 1 for a file with text, 3 for a photo or scan. Reviewing, editing, retrying a paid read and everything in your planner never use credits. Credits never expire.

Elyndo includes 5 credits, and more are available as in-app purchases. If a read is interrupted, reopen it from Imports and try again. A read that’s already paid for doesn’t use another credit.

Keyboard shortcuts

These work on Mac, and on iPad with a keyboard attached. On Mac, choose Help › Keyboard Shortcuts or press ⌘ / to see them at any time.
